About the USF Equestrian Club
Our club began in Fall 2007 with three people, a faculty advisor, and a great deal of inspiration. With a huge amount of dedication and support from the university, the club became official in Spring 2008. The team began it’s first IHSA season in January 2009 competing in Hunt Seat Equitation on the flat and over fences, each time coming home with as many ribbons as competitors!
A considerable group of members is already taking lessons with our official Coach, Karen Sykes. Karen instructs students in hunter, jumper, equitation, dressage, and cross country disciplines in Odessa, FL. Tryouts for team competition are set up on an individual basis after meeting with the executive board and having a one on one lesson with our trainer. Many members are already showing on local and rated circuits.
We are on our way to having a viable, competitive team for the Western divisions of the IHSA, also.
